Self Reviews

Year 12 Self Review

Regarding the IB learner profile, I currently consider myself to be principled because I am responsible and respect others’ feelings and opinions. Furthermore, I feel I am open-minded as I appreciate other peoples’ cultures and personal histories whilst also being caring as I show respect towards the needs and feelings of those around me.

Throughout the course of these next two years I aim to better myself through covering all aspects of the IB learner profile. I feel that I need to work on being more of a risk-taker by participating in activities which I may not normally partake in. I also need to work on reflecting on the activities which I am involved in and become a better communicator in order to express my ideas more confidently to others.

As far as CAS goes, I believe that I already to quite a lot of Service and Adventure. I feel that Service is a great way to give back to your local community in additions to being a great learning experience for oneself. I have participated in the Koh Phi Phi project where we are building a new community centre for the locals on the island who were affected by the tsunami in 2004. I have also visited the Fountain of Life and the Mercy Centre (schools for the street children) to teach English.

Over these next few years I intend to continue these Service projects. I feel that I need to engage more in creative activities and to do this I plan to get involved in the school production or to maybe learn how to play a musical instrument. For adventure I will participate in our Koh Chang Challenge.

  • To learn and improve from my mistakes.
Planned and initiated activities
and
Considered the ethical implications of your actions.
Reflection
1.     How has your opinion of your activity choices changed since your experiences on Koh Chang?
2.     What changes would you make to your planning of activities?
3.     How realistic were your goals?
  1. Since beginning CAS last year after Koh Chang, I now get involved in a variety of different activities ranging from Creativity to Action to Service. Previously I was not very highly involved in Service but once I started to engage in more Service projects and bond with our local community partners, I really developed a love and a passion for it. So mu so that I applied to be the school’s Sevice Pillar Leader. Overall, I feel that I am now more well-rounded and open-minded when it comes to picking activities. I am more open to trying new and challenging activities.
  2. When planning and undertaking new activities, I now realize that I need to leave some free time to get all my academic work done and to just relax occasionally. Could I do it again, I would have tried to spread my activities out in terms of sports, academics, service etc.
  3. I did not manage to reach all of my goals from year 12 unfortunately. I found some of them to be far too difficult. I think it is good to challenge yourself with goals but not to set anything with is unachievable. I did manage to achieve many of my goals though, such as learning to do a layup shot in basketball.
